Description: Additional Information: Position Description:
1.General job duties. Types of procedures required. The IMCU RN s
primary function is to provide an environment wherein adult medical
and surgical patients requiring intermediate care can be frequently
assessed, monitored, and receive appropriate therapy and nursing
interventions. IMCU patients generally fall into two categories:
patients who require an increased intensity of nursing care and/or
patients who require an increased level of monitoring. The IMCU RN
collaborates with all members of the multidisciplinary team - RT,
PT, OT, Pharmacy, Discharge Planning, Surgeons and Hospitalists.The
IMCU is reserved for patients requiring less care than standard
intensive care but more than that which is available from ward
care. Characteristics of intermediate care patients (as compared to
critical care patients) include: a decreased risk of a
life-threatening event, a decreased need for invasive monitoring,
increased stability, and an increased ability to participate in
their own care.Examples of procedures and medication drips to
manage: insulin, precedex, cardizem, amiodarone, epidurals & PCAs,
tracheostomies, BiPAP, and heated high flow oxygen. 2.Equipment
utilized in the unit/dept. (Is there computerized charting,
medication systems, etc.)Computerized charting in EPIC. Medication
charting in EPIC. Use of Omnicell for medication retreival. Use of
GE Monitors for cardiac monitoring and vital signs. Other general
equipment used would be a vein finder for IV starting, bladder
scanner, and a defibrillator/pacer in code situations. 3.Required
skills and minimum years of experience.2 years4.Specific licensures
and certifications/registrations required. (ARRT, CRT, BLS, ACLS,
etc)ACLS, BLS5.Shift or schedule requirements. (Will the employee
ever work alone? Is call required? If so, how often? Are weekends
required?) Variable schedule days and/or variable schedule nights,
12-hour shifts. Weekend availability is required, minimum 2-4
weekend shifts per 4-week period. The employee will not work alone.
Call or "standby" is only required if there are more staff members
scheduled than required. There is no scheduled call. 6.Floating to
other units/departments. (If so, to which
units/departments?)Possible floating to med/surg units. IMCU
Travelers who have ICU experience may float to ICU to care for
lower acuity patients at times7.Bed size/number of rooms for this
unit/dept.12 bed IMCU8.Nurse to patient ratio of this unit.
(nursing only) Generally one nurse to three patients, but can vary
based on nursing intensity and patient acuity.9.Dress Scrubs10.Tell
us about the unit/department specific training and orientation
program.All new staff complete a general hospital and nursing
orientation through Asante New Employee Orientation.In addition,
intermediate care nurses complete an orientation developed by the
staff development specialist that is specific to the IMCU and may
be customized based on an identified learning needs
assessment.Comments: Will be asked to float as needed. OR RN
License Required for starting. Temp license available for non-OR
RN36 Hour GTD; Will consider 48 GTD OT billed after 48 hours
worked12 hours non-billable orientation for first work
weekGuaranteed hours do not apply to the first work week24 hours
